30 Cadets from the West Point Pre-Medical Society got the opportunity to visit Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Uniformed Services University (USU) on April 17-19. Cadets engaged with senior Army leaders, practicing physicians, surgeons, and current USU students during lectures, hands-on activities, and Q&A panels. Cadets received briefs from Assistant Director for the Defense Health Agency Dr. Brian Lein ’84 and Chief of Pediatric Surgery at Walter Reed Dr. Woo Do ’11. Cadets also utilized digital anatomy learning tools, honed their suturing skills, and participated in a patient assessment scenario. Cadets met with former West Point graduates who are currently assigned to Walter Reed as practicing physicians and surgeons. Overall, the trip allowed Cadets to develop a better understanding of Army medicine, the medical educational program, and the role they will face as future Army physicians. Graduate physicians on the Q&A panel from left-to-right: MAJ Woo Do ’11, MAJ AJ Pisano ’10, MAJ John Blickle ’14, MAJ Bryan Kantner ’10, Dr. John Combs ’87, and CPT Gabrielle Young ’19.
