Special Security Update for West Point Access

Escort Privileges:
Effective immediately, and until further notice, West Point security has suspended all “escort privileges” for guests visiting West Point. That is, all non-credentialed visitors (18 or older), even personal, escorted guests of active duty/retired/dependent/faculty/contractor cardholders, must now obtain official West Point visitor passes to pass through security checkpoints.

Grad Pass:
Grad Passes remain valid for 5 years, but the application and issuing processes have changed. The West Point Visitor Control Center (VCC) has eliminated all requirements to submit security forms (paper or online) for visitor passes. This applies to all pass types, including Grad Passes. The Grad Pass pre-submission feature has therefore been removed from the AOG website.

The updated process for all security passes is as follows:

  • All visitors (18+) must be physically present at the VCC to receive a pass. The VCC is collocated with the West Point Visitors’ Center in Highland Falls. The GPS navigation address is: 2107 New South Post Road; Highland Falls, NY 10928.
  • The entrance to the VCC is the door that faces the parking lot.
  • VCC Hours are 6:00am to 6:00pm, seven days a week (closed on federal holidays). If arriving at West Point outside of normal business hours, proceed to Stony Lonesome Gate, off Route 9W, to obtain a temporary pass.

Upon entering the VCC, proceed directly to the ticket machines—there are no forms to complete.

  • Graduates and their guests: each person takes a blue (grad) ticket and sits in the Alumni Seating Area.
  • General public visitors: each person takes a red ticket and sits in the general seating area.

Visitors are called individually by ticket number/color and will proceed to a security desk when called.

  • Valid ID is required:
    • Driver’s license must be Enhanced or REAL ID compliant
    • If the license is not compliant, a valid U.S. passport may be used as a secondary ID. That is, BOTH the license and the passport must be shown.
  • Background checks are conducted on the spot at the time ID is presented.

Graduates must explicitly identify themselves as graduates to receive a 5-year Grad Pass. Security personnel will not assume graduate status, regardless of seating location.

  • No physical passes are issued.
  • All passes (including 1-year and 5-year Grad Passes) are digitally embedded in the driver’s license.
  • The license serves as the pass and will be scanned at security checkpoints.

Foreign Visitors: All non-U.S. Citizens must present a valid passport with appropriate visa or ESTA, and, when on post, must be escorted at all times by a CAC card holder (Active-duty CAC or West Point-issued CAC). Retirees, dependents, and/or Grad Pass holders cannot escort foreign guests.

For all questions regarding the pass process, ID requirements, or security policies, please contact the VCC at 315-774-9234 / 9235.
