Cadets from the United States Military Academy Class of 2029 welcomed family and friends to West Point during Plebe-Parent Weekend, held March 26–28, marking a significant milestone in their first year at the Academy.

Before the start of spring break, Fourth Class cadets shared their West Point experience with visitors through a series of events and activities across Post. Families had the opportunity to explore key locations, including the Cadet Uniform Factory, the Army Sports Hall of Fame, Archives and Special Collections at the USMA Library, the Simulation Center, and academic departments during open houses.

The weekend also featured the Plebe Review, where cadets demonstrated their discipline and progress on the parade field, marching in formation on the Apron in front of their guests—a visible reminder of the transformation that has taken place since Reception Day.

Plebe-Parent Weekend concluded with a formal banquet at the Cadet Mess Hall and a reception and hop at Eisenhower Hall.

During the Plebe Parent Weekend Banquet, the Class of 2029 officially unveiled its class crest—an enduring symbol of the class’s identity, shared experience, and commitment to the ideals of West Point.

The crest, designed by the Class Ring and Crest Committee, reflects both the unique journey of the Class of 2029 and its connection to the generations of graduates who form the Long Gray Line.

At the center of the design is a red ribbon bearing the class motto, “Hold the Line,” a phrase that reinforces the responsibility each cadet carries to uphold Duty, Honor, Country and to carry forward the legacy of those who came before them.

An olive branch—linked to the symbolism of Athena and the intellectual and military excellence expected of cadets—represents both peace and strength, as well as the Academy’s mission to develop leaders prepared to serve the nation.

The crest also incorporates crossed officer and cadet sabers, symbolizing the transformation from civilian to cadet and ultimately to commissioned officer, reflecting the discipline, growth, and commitment required along that journey.

A distinctive element of the Class of 2029 crest is the inclusion of a helicopter propeller, representing a defining moment of their Beast experience and the shared challenges that shaped their early time at West Point.

Additional elements—including the eagle, American flag, and USMA insignia—underscore the class’s dedication to service, resilience, and their future role in defending the nation.

Representing the Class of 1979 at this year’s events were COL (R) Kent Abernathy, Class President, and LTC (R) Marcus Bonds, former Ring and Crest Chair.

Their presence highlighted the lifelong bonds formed at West Point and graduates’ continued commitment to mentor and support future leaders.

The unveiling of the Class of 2029 crest stands as an important milestone—capturing not only what the class has accomplished during its first year but also the foundation it continues to build as it develops into leaders of character prepared to serve the nation.
