The West Point Association of Graduates’ CONNECT program was recently honored with the CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) Award for “the best work in educational advancement in the Mid-Atlantic region.” This recognition highlights the program’s creativity, innovation, and impact. It is CONNECT’s third major distinction, following two Gold Stevie Awards naming it a “Life-Altering Program.”
CONNECT is an ongoing effort to strengthen the Highland Falls community through academic enrichment for students in grades 3–8. Each school day, the program provides classes, homework support, healthy activities, and nutritious snacks. In total, CONNECT offers the equivalent of 52.85 extra days of instruction—adding nearly 29% more academic support each year. Attendance and testing scores continue to rise as a result.

USMA Cadets play an active role, reinforcing the idea that service begins long before graduation. Every Friday, West Point clubs, teams, and academic departments mentor CONNECT students and lead hands-on learning experiences.
Most recently, more than 70 Cadets welcomed CONNECT students to Daly Field for a kid-friendly Sandhurst-style competition. Relay races, tug-of-war, obstacle courses, and even a camouflage lesson introduced students to teamwork, sportsmanship, and cooperation. As several CONNECT participants exclaimed, “It was the best day ever!”
On Friday, November 14, CONNECT hosted a community open house where Village of Highland Falls Mayor James DiSalvo presented faculty and staff with certificates of appreciation. The citation read, in part:
“In recognition of your outstanding dedication, guidance, and commitment to excellence in the HVP CONNECT Program. Your efforts have empowered students to achieve their highest potential and have made a lasting impact on their educational journey. Thank you for your invaluable contribution to shaping future leaders.”
Honored guests included WPAOG Board of Trustees members Kathleen S. Hildreth ’83 and Thomas E. Eyres ’84; WPAOG President & CEO Mark D. Bieger ’91; WPAOG COO Patrick Ortland ’82; WPAOG Vice President Terence Sinkfield ’99; HFFMCSD Superintendent Michael McElduff; Highland Falls Intermediate School Principal Charles Femia; and members of the West Point Softball Team, who spent the afternoon with CONNECT students.
