The GEO Club, the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences, and the Department of Public Works joined forces to celebrate Arbor Day on April 30 outside Bartlett Hall at West Point by planting a new Accolade Elm. DPW Agronomist Phil Koury selected the disease-resistant Accolade Elm to help revitalize the formal allée of elms that once lined the historic landscape in the Central Area. “This variety is Dutch Elm Disease resistant and matches the same variety that’s planted in front of Pershing Barracks,” Koury said. COL Mark Read ’92, head of the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences, read the official Arbor Day Proclamation during the event. West Point has proudly held Tree City USA status for the past 28 years.
