Cadets Reflect on Ethics and Service During Trip to D.C. and Philadelphia

Category: Cadet News

The Simon Center for the Professional Military Ethic (SCPME) conducted a “Character in the Profession” IAD to Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. During this IAD, seven cadets explored the foundations and examples of character essential to their growth as future Army officers. From the Constitution Center and Valley Forge to discussions on FM-1 at the Pentagon, civil-military relations at Georgetown, and professional values at AUSA, the experience pushed cadets to reflect deeply on service, ethics, and responsibility.

Highlights included a team run through the National Mall and past war memorials, a conversation with Susan Eisenhower, and visits to Arlington National Cemetery and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The trip concluded with a comparative discussion on honor systems at the U.S. Naval Academy and cadets capped the experience by writing reflections that connected their insights to the meaning of character in the Army Profession. Cadets have opportunities to travel and experience significant out-of-the-classroom opportunities thanks to donor support of the Margin of Excellence.
