Army West Point Women’s Soccer earned a 2-1 victory on November 6 over the Colgate Raiders (9-6-4, Patriot 6-3-1) in the Patriot League Championship Semifinals. The Army Black Knights (13-5-2, 6-3-1) will advance to the Patriot League Championship on November 9 against No.1 Boston U.
The Black Knights were led by Patriot League Rookie of the Year CDT Sophia Henry ’29 and Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year CDT Brigid Duffy ’26, as the duo scored their second and third goals against the Colgate Raiders this season.
Neither team was able to earn control of the ball early in the game, with much of the play happening in the middle third of the pitch. The Black Knights had a couple of good chances, including a chance from Duffy when she beat her defender, but it was eventually stopped by the sliding defender.
The Black Knights were able to break through at 43:42 on a strike from inside the box by Henry. CDT Bella Conti ’28 kicked a ball into the box on the right-hand side. Henry collected the ball, quickly turned, and shot it on the low right side to make it 1-0 late in the first half.
Going into the break, Army took a 1-0 lead. The Black Knights had many chances in the second half to extend their lead with three corner kicks. The Black Knights were able to strike in the closing minutes of the match for their eighth goal with under 10 minutes remaining in a match this season.
At 87:23, Duffy scored the match’s eventual game-winning goal. CDT Sabrina Rogers ’27 carried the ball above the box, but it was taken away by three Colgate defenders. Nearby, Duffy came to put pressure on the Colgate defenders and was able to win the ball. She carried it into the middle of the box and took a shot that hit the left-hand side of the net.
The Raiders would score once with 33 seconds left in the match, but it proved to be too little too late.
Next, the No.3 Army Black Knights will travel to take on the No.1 Boston University Terriers in the Patriot League Championship match. The winner of that match will earn the Patriot League Automatic Bid to the NCAA tournament. First touch is scheduled for 12pm on November 9 and will be live-streamed on CBS Sports Network.
