Army West Point women’s rugby added another Star to the Long Gray Line’s proud Army-Navy rivalry tradition with a commanding 36-5 victory over the Midshipmen on Oct. 31. The win marked the Black Knights’ fourth consecutive Star Match victory, keeping Army undefeated against Navy in the series.

Six Black Knights scored tries, while Emily Steen added three conversions to help secure the victory. Army’s defense delivered another standout performance, holding Navy to just five points for the second consecutive match.

The West Point Society of Annapolis (WPSOA) joined the celebration, helping team parents with pre- and post-game tailgates for about 60 family members and guests. Following the victory, players and coaches gathered with supporters for a celebratory buffet. In recognition of the win over Navy, WPSOA President Steve Heinecke ’77 presented Coach Salomon with the Society’s coveted “In the Heart of Enemy Territory” Coin. The team departed for West Point with goodie bags and another Army-Navy Star in hand.

For West Point graduates, the victory is another reminder of the pride, determination and competitive spirit that define the Army-Navy rivalry. With a perfect 4-0 record in the women’s rugby Star Match, the Black Knights continue to build a tradition of excellence that resonates throughout the Long Gray Line.

As the team turns its attention to the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) postseason, graduates and fans have another opportunity to rally behind Army women’s rugby and cheer on the cadet-athletes representing the Academy as West Point hosts the NIRA Divisional Championships on Nov. 21-22.
