On June 30, the 50-Year Affiliate Class of 1979 returned to West Point to warmly welcome the incoming Class of 2029 and their families for R-Day. With thoughtful gestures ranging from chocolates and tissues for emotional goodbyes, to magnets and photo frames as keepsakes, and water and breakfast to keep everyone refreshed during the long day, the Class of ’79—“Top of the Line”—offered heartfelt support to the newest members of the Long Gray Line.

From the early morning arrivals at Foley Athletic Center to the Oath Ceremony on the Plain at sunset, smiles, handshakes, and encouragement were shared throughout the day. The Class of 1979’s efforts were led by Classmate in Charge, Mr. Alan Watts, and supported by a strong showing of classmates and their family members, including LTG (R) Charles W. Hooper and Ms. Caroline Katzin-Hooper, MG (R) Jeffrey A. Jacobs, COL (R) Marvin P. Anderson and COL (R) Jean Anderson, COL (R) Marc R. Hildenbrand and Ms. Joy Deupree, LTC (R) Harold S. Hardrick, LTC (R) Steven R. Niblett, LTC (R) Arthur A. Sobers Jr., Mr. Eugene L. McIntyre, Mr. Joseph A. Sladewski and Mrs. Virginia Sladewski, Mr. Jeffery J. Thompson and Ms. Lisa Thompson, and Mr. Jeffrey F. Wright.

Also present were COL (R) Kathleen G. Snook ’80 and Mr. Edward J. Ruggero ’80 with Ms. Marcia Noa, offering their support in preparation for the Class of 1980’s role in welcoming next year’s incoming cadets.

Since its inception in 1999, the 50-Year Affiliation Program has continued to strengthen the bond between West Point graduates and cadets, bridging generations through mentorship, tradition, and shared purpose.
