World Photography Day with Cadet Media Group

Did you know around 57,000 photos are taken every second? Did you know Margin of Excellence dollars support the Cadet Media Group (CMG)?

Today is World Photography Day and we caught up with some members of CMG,  a club that unleashes creativity and allows cadets to tell the story of cadets through photography and videography.

CMG is one of the 120 clubs made possible by donors supporting the Margin of Excellence. Cadet clubs are vital leadership labs, calling for many of the same abilities expected of our combat leaders: the ability to coordinate logistics, manage budgets, maintain equipment, deploy and redeploy safely, and win.

Meet some of the members below!

“It’s no secret that West Point is a truly special place with storied history and a legacy of excellence, yet there sometimes seems to be a disconnect between how the general public views the Corps of Cadets and the perspective that I am privileged to have from within the Corps. Being in the Cadet Media Group allows me to tell the story of cadet life through the lens of an actual cadet; thus rendering the most faithful image of life at West Point. Additionally, I consider it a privilege to be constantly surrounded by exceptional people, so I’m beyond proud to be able to use my camera as a means of training the public eye on excellence within our Corps.”

– CDT Noah Murray ’25, CIC

“Cadet Media Group is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the Cadet experience from our perspective. It’s surreal to capture my classmates and peers in their high and low moments— it helps us to slow down and savor the good parts of our 47 months!”

– CDT Steve Litterini ’24, A/CIC

“Being in CMG is important to me because it provides me opportunities to further hone my photography and videography skills. On top of that, CMG also provides meaningful travel opportunities— last year, I flew to Alabama to take photos at an away football game and I really enjoyed the experience”

– CDT Syahmi Bin Haji Kamaluddin ’24 (Brunei)

“Being in CMG is important to me because it has given me many unique opportunities and experiences as a cadet. I have met and worked with people I would have otherwise never met, I’ve been able to capture moments I would otherwise never have been able to, and I’ve been able to get better at photography with a great group of people.”
