On March 14, 2026, the West Point Society of Annapolis (WPSOA) marked its 40th annual Founders Day—bringing together 45 graduates and guests in Severna Park, MD, to celebrate a shared commitment to West Point and the Long Gray Line.

The evening reflected the enduring traditions that connect generations of graduates. Following the Benny Havens Hour, WPSOA President Steve Heinecke ’77 opened the formal program with customary toasts, setting the tone for a night centered on fellowship and reflection.

A highlight of the evening was the recognition of the oldest attending graduates from the Class of 1968—Bob Stroud, Henry Riser, and Jim Greenberg—alongside the youngest graduate present, 1LT Elisabeth Ake ’24. Ake shared reflections from her first year on active duty, offering a perspective shaped by early leadership experiences and continued service—an important reminder of the Academy’s mission to develop leaders of character prepared for the challenges of today’s Army.

WPAOG’s Brian Wetzler (USNA ’86) provided an update on current initiatives supporting graduates and the Academy, reinforcing the continued partnership between local societies and WPAOG in strengthening the graduate network.

The program also included a brief society update, outlining WPSOA’s ongoing efforts to foster engagement, sustain membership, and plan meaningful events in the year ahead—demonstrating the Society’s role in maintaining strong connections across the graduate community.

The evening concluded with remarks from Mark and Holly West ’91, founders of Westy’s, a new restaurant just outside Thayer Gate in Highland Falls. Their story highlighted the continued connection between graduates and West Point, as well as their support of the Hudson Valley Program and broader community. Their experiences underscored how graduates continue to serve and strengthen the West Point network in new and meaningful ways.

In keeping with long-standing tradition, the celebration closed with the singing of Navy’s “Blue & Gold” and West Point’s Alma Mater—Army, as always, singing second—bringing the evening to a fitting close rooted in camaraderie, pride, and shared legacy.
