West Point Combatives Team is Victorious Over Navy

Categories: Cadet News, Clubs

In a groundbreaking moment on April 26, the now-named Combatives Team secured its *first-ever victory over the U.S. Naval Academy with a commanding final score of 19-8. Throughout the day, matches stretched to the limits of endurance, with cadets battling 5, 6, and even 7-minute rounds in pursuit of submissions. When no submission was achieved in regulation, matches entered overtime, where the fastest submission or escape would determine the winner. In these critical overtime moments, the USMA cadets excelled.

Fueled by an unrelenting desire to win and backed by a battle-tested training culture, they executed with precision and composure under immense pressure. The ethos was clear and consistent throughout the team: “Get on top. Stay on top. Submit. Win.” The final score of 19 to 8 reflected a tactical win and a cultural milestone for the program. For the first time, the USMA Combatives Team stood victorious over Navy in this grueling format, marking a historic step forward in their continued rise.

*Thanks to Graduate Christian Pierce ’10, it was pointed out that the club, formerly known as Mixed Martial Arts, had beaten Navy in 2007, so this was the first time they won under the new Combative Team name.
