USMA Chess had another outstanding showing in the US Amateur Team East tournament, on February 17-19 in Parsippany, NJ. This three-day event is one of the largest tournaments in the world, with 330 teams and over 1,300 individual players. Cadets Addison Lee ’26, Peter Jackson ’26, Julian Gullett ’27, and Na’im McCarty ’24 joined forces to finish in the top 30% of all teams and were the first-place finisher in the U1800 category. CDT Jackson was also one of only two “Board 2” players in the entire tournament to finish with a perfect 6-0 record. Most importantly, in a showcase head-to-head match with our Naval Academy counterparts, USMA Chess easily defeated them with a perfect 4-0 record.

There are nearly 120 cadet clubs at West Point including athletic, recreational, academic, religious, hobby, and diversity clubs – something for virtually every interest, made possible by donors supporting the Margin of Excellence.
