Celebrate American Heart Month by Focusing on Wellness, Connection, and Supporting Your Battle Buddies.
February is American Heart Month, making it the perfect time to focus on heart health—for yourself and those around you. With Valentine’s Day approaching, consider showing love by prioritizing wellness or signing up for a CPR course. Taking care of yourself should always be a top priority, and a wealth of information is available to help you stay informed.
A great place to start is the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which provides fact sheets and resources on heart health. If you’re interested in learning CPR, the Red Cross offers both in-person and online courses—because knowing what to do in an emergency can save lives.
Stay Active, Stay Connected
Physical activity, strong social connections, and a supportive community all contribute to good heart health. If you’re looking for ways to get involved, consider connecting with these two organizations:
- Team RWB – A nonprofit dedicated to enriching the lives of veterans through fitness, community, and connection.
- Wounded Warrior Project – Supports post-9/11 veterans and their families, including through its Physical Health & Wellness program and many other initiatives.
Check In on Your Battle Buddies
We’re deep in the gray period, and sometimes, a simple check-in with a fellow grad or service member can make all the difference. Keep these resources in mind, share them freely, and take care of yourselves and each other.
- 211 Helpline – A free, confidential, 24/7 resource that connects individuals with essential services and community programs nationwide. If you or someone you know needs support, 211 can help.
- Veterans/Military Crisis Line – A free, confidential resource for all service members, veterans (including National Guard and Reserves), and their families—regardless of VA registration or enrollment. Dial 988, press 1, or text 838255 to chat online with a VA responder. A trained professional will listen and provide support.
