Class Years:

In November, the West Point Society of Annapolis (WPSOA) sponsored a dinner for this fall’s exchange cadets from the class of 2027 with special guest speaker LTG (R) Omar J. Jones IV ’92.

Thirty guests attended the dinner held in Annapolis, MD, including three members of the 50-year affiliation class of 1977. Following dinner, WPSOA President Steve Heinecke ’77 introduced LTG (R) Omar J. Jones IV, class of 1992 and former exchange cadet, who addressed the assemblage on his philosophy of leadership, honed during his 33-year Army career. The general’s philosophy is to invest in people through the building of cohesive teams, using principles of connected leadership (listen, invest, loyalty, inspire ), a culture of belonging (respect, inclusion, value, trust), and a climate of predictability (standards, recognition, accountability, transparency). The talk was well-received and inspired questions from the exchange cadets and the old grads.

LTG(R) Omar James Jones IV ’92 concluded a distinguished 33-year Army career in July 2025, retiring as the Commanding General of U.S. Army Installation Management Command (IMCOM). From 2022 to 2025, he led the Army’s global network of posts, camps, and stations, shaping readiness, resilience, and quality of life for Soldiers and their families worldwide. Prior to this role, he served as IMCOM’s Deputy Commanding General and, from 2019 to 2021, commanded both the U.S. Army Military District of Washington and Joint Task Force–National Capital Region.

As First Captain of the Corps of Cadets, he helped steward the traditions and leadership standards of the Long Gray Line, graduating in 1992 with a B.S. in Operations Research. He later earned a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University and a master’s degree in national security strategy from the National War College.

LTG Jones retired during a ceremony at Joint Base Myer–Henderson Hall on July 31, 2025, marking the close of a career defined by mission focus, character, and service to the Nation.

The primary mission of the West Point Society of Annapolis is to support the exchange cadets during their fall semester at the U.S. Naval Academy, as well as other cadets traveling through the Annapolis area or visiting for club or athletic competition. In so doing, the WPSOA strives to serve West Point in Annapolis and Maryland by developing and sustaining programs that promote West Point, support graduates and cadets, and reflect the values of West Point in Annapolis and the communities throughout Maryland.
