On Sunday, August 17, the evening before the first day of classes, the West Point Cow Class of 2027 took the Oath of Affirmation in Eisenhower Hall, declaring their commitment to complete the next two years of study and serve their five-year, active-duty service obligation.

Members from the Class of 1977, one from each cadet company, attended as part of WPAOG’s 50-Year Affiliation Program and presented each member of the Class of 2027 with a joint Class Coin symbolizing the commitment of both to the Profession of Arms. LTG (R) Robert P. Lennox ’77, provided remarks as the evening’s guest speaker. Marking the importance of the occasion, distinguished members of the Class of 1977 shared well wishes and advice via a special video, which was played during the ceremony.

“Tonight marks the beginning of an extraordinary journey—one defined by sacrifice, service, and honor. The oath you take this evening is not only to serve our Nation, but also to uphold the legacy of the Long Gray Line, to stand beside your classmates, and to remain true to yourselves as the leaders of character you are becoming. You have the unique privilege of serving the greatest and most resilient Nation in the world. The founding truths and principles of our democracy—freedom, justice, and equality—will guide you, as they have guided us.”  –  Advice from the Class of 1977, Esprit de Corps

The Oath of Affirmation was given by BG R.J. Garcia ’96, 81st Commandant of the U.S. Corps of Cadets, and welcoming remarks were made by the Class President, CDT Jack Capriola ’27.

The West Point Association of Graduates congratulates the Class of 2027 on their commitment to the Profession of Arms and thanks the Class of 1977 for their support as the 50-Year Affiliation Class.
