Regardless of whether the Kansas City Chiefs or the Philadelphia Eagles win Super Bowl LIX, the Long Gray Line is guaranteed to have a Super Bowl champion in 2025.
This will be the third-straight Super Bowl for Chiefs linebacker Cole Christiansen ’20, a two-time Super Bowl champion. Offensive lineman Brett Toth ’18 was on the injured reserves list in 2022 when the Eagles made the Super Bowl, but lost to the Chiefs. For this Super Sunday, he is on the active player roster.
“I am just incredibly proud of both of those guys. It’s hard to play in that league — those are the best players on the face of the planet — and they’re able to compete with those guys, play with those guys. I’m just really proud of them and the development they’ve made,” Army head coach Jeff Monken told USA TODAY Sports. Monken brought both Toth and Christiansen to West Point.
“It is a tremendous source of pride for our program to just have a guy in the NFL,” Monken said. “It’s great for us to be able to brag about them. It makes football beyond college a reality for everybody that is in our program and those that are considering joining our program. It’s awesome. And to see them play in the biggest, the most-watched football game in the world, it’s awesome. They’re both great kids.”
Christiansen, who played in nine games this season, won’t suit up on Sunday unless he’s promoted from the practice squad. Toth didn’t play during the 2024 regular season, but has appeared in all three of the Eagles’ playoff wins, primarily on special teams, and took some offensive snaps in the team’s NFC championship win against the Washington Commanders.
Super Bowl LIX will kick off at 5:30PM CT in New Orleans.
