Matthew Travers ’88 has been appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for North America at Stantec, one of the world’s leading design and engineering firms. In his new role, Travers will help lead operations across the company’s largest region, working with teams across the business to advance strategic priorities, strengthen operational excellence and deliver solutions for clients and communities. A 30-year industry veteran, Travers previously led Stantec’s Water business, where he helped expand the organization’s reach, strengthen client relationships and develop high-performing teams.

Travers’ approach to leadership is grounded in the principles of teamwork, accountability and service – values shaped in part by his experience as a U.S. Army officer. After earning an engineering degree from the United States Military Academy, Travers served as a platoon leader in the 10th Mountain Division. Those experiences continue to influence his approach to building teams, developing future leaders and tackling complex challenges. Throughout his career, he has led major infrastructure and environmental programs across North America, bringing together diverse teams and stakeholders to deliver practical solutions with lasting impact. He also holds a master’s degree in environmental and water resources engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

Travers says he measures success not only by results, but by the strength of relationships, the growth of the people around him and the difference projects make in the communities they serve. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children and exploring the outdoors, including skiing, hiking and spending time on the water. The family frequently travels to coastal Maine, where they enjoy time together and the natural surroundings.
