Len Shartzer ’77 released “Mustered For War: A Memoir.” Mobilized for Operation Enduring Freedom after 9/11, COL Shartzer, U.S. Army Reserve, was ordered to leave his civilian job and family at the age of 48 for a combat deployment in Afghanistan. He became engaged in the international effort to transform ethnically diverse tribes into a country loyal to a central government. When he finally returned home, he faced fighting yet another grueling war.
