More than 150 United States Military Academy graduates who led and fought during the Allied invasion of Normandy on D-Day will be remembered in perpetuity on the West Point D-Day Memorial, unveiled by the Normandy Institute on June 4, 2026, at France’s La Fière Memorial Park.
The memorial recognizes the extraordinary leadership and valor demonstrated by those of the Long Gray Line who led troops ashore and into combat during the liberation of Europe. Among the notable graduates memorialized on the plaque are GEN Dwight D. Eisenhower ’15, GEN Omar Bradley ’15, GEN Willard Wyman ’19, GEN James Gavin ’29, and GEN Maxwell Taylor ’22.
Speakers at the unveiling included LTG Steven W. Gilland ’90, the 61st Superintendent of USMA; Dr. Frank Luntz, Senior Fellow at West Point; GEN David M. Rodriguez ’76, former commander of the 82nd Airborne Division and former Commander of U.S. Central Command; LTG Curtis Buzzard ’92, former Commandant of USMA; and LTG Mark Landes ’90.
The Normandy Institute’s West Point D-Day Memorial Commission worked on the memorial in collaboration with the West Point Association of Graduates; the First Division Museum Archives at Cantigny in Wheaton, Illinois; and the 82nd Airborne Division War Memorial Museum at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Located near one of the fiercest battle sites of the Normandy campaign, La Fière Memorial Park also commemorates the airborne operations that were critical to the success of the Allied landings on June 6, 1944.
