Captain Alexander Jamal Zander Harmon was born January 2, 1986 in Jacksonville, FL to Arthur B. Harmon Sr. and Charlene D. (Eady) Harmon.  He was the second of three sons.
He became a Christian (disciple of Christ) at an early age and devoted his life to pleasing the Lord.  He served under Pastor David Thomas (Joint Heirs Christian Center), Bishop Joseph Walker III (Mount Zion Baptist Church, Nashville, TN) and Bishop Gary Hall (West Jacksonville COGIC).
He enjoyed playing board games and watching the “Family Feud” game show with his family. He also was passionate about supporting religious organizations and civic events.
He was a graduate of Paxon School of Advance Studies, Class of 2004. He participated in many extracurricular activities. He was co-captain on the varsity basketball team, cadet squad leader, with the Army JROTC, and chaplain of the local National Honor Society. He received numerous academic accolades as well. Immediately upon graduation he accepted an appointment to the West Point Military Academy, West Point, NY.
He served in the United States Army, 2009-15, with distinction as a combat Engineers officer. The discipline and patriotism learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest. Serving his country and his soldiers were some of the happiest years of his life. The military suited his sense of order and his code of loyalty.
He was truly devoted to his obligations in South Korea while representing the United States, receiving the Korea Defense Service Medal and the Overseas Service Ribbon. Upon returning to the United States, duty called again.  He deployed to serve his country in Afghanistan with the Global War on Terrorism. Because of his dedication and commitment, he received the Afghanistan Medal with a Bronze Service Star and other military service accommodation medals. He earned his Master of Science in Engineering Management from George Washington University.
Alex often enjoyed hanging out with cousins Rosalind, LaRissa, Dianah, Brittany, LeIsha, and Taurien and his brothers Art Jr. and Andrew, as family was very important to him.
