Major Gifts Officer Mike Lyons ’83

Mike Lyons is a 1983 graduate of the “Proud to be” class of 1983 by way of New City, NY. At West Point he played lacrosse and was the photography editor of the 1983 edition of The Howitzer, the West Point yearbook. He was commissioned in the Field Artillery and served his first duty station Fort Knox, Kentucky. Upon completion of his first tour, was assigned to the 1st Armored Division in Ansbach, Germany, and commanded A Battery, 3/17th FA of VII Corps Artillery. He deployed to Operation Desert Storm with the 2nd Armored Calvary Regiment while in command. Following his combat tour, he was the Aide de Camp for the Deputy Commanding General of the US Army VII Corps, Stuttgart, Germany and to the DCoS, Operations, AFCENT, in Brunssum, the Netherlands.

After leaving the military, Mike spent most of his career running and starting professional service organizations. He has worked with Fortune 500 companies in areas such as strategic business planning, leadership development, marketing and merger and acquisition negotiations. An expert presenter, Mike is a CBS Radio News on-air Contributor, providing commentary on current military and national security issues. He is a non-resident fellow for the Modern War Institute at West Point and has written multiple articles for publication. Mike has a passion for ice hockey and is an off-ice official for the National Hockey League. He joined the West Point Association of Graduates in November of 2019.
