Support West Point with Your 529 Plan

Did you know that you can use your 529 college savings plan to support the West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG)? While 529 plans don’t permit direct gifts to nonprofits like WPAOG, there is an alternative option.

If your child receives a scholarship, certain tax-free educational benefits, or attends a U.S. service academy such as West Point, you may withdraw an equivalent amount from the 529 plan without incurring the 10% federal penalty. While the earnings portion of the withdrawal will be subject to federal and state income taxes, the funds can then be used to make a tax-deductible charitable gift directly to WPAOG.

This opportunity allows you to both support your cadet’s journey and invest in the future of West Point and the Long Gray Line. Before proceeding, be sure to consult your tax advisor and review your state’s 529 plan guidelines.

For more information on making a gift, contact the Annual Giving Office at annualgiving@wpaog.org.
