West Point Model U.N. Team Takes First at Columbia Conference

Ten cadets from the USMA Model United Nations (MUN) team earned the top award in their category, Best Small Delegation, at the Columbia Model United Nations in New York conference (CMUNNY) at Columbia University. CMUNNY is among the top-ranked events of the Model U.N. circuit, and offered cadets the chance to develop public speaking skills, gain knowledge of international affairs, and represent the U.S. Army and USMA to a civilian university audience. Cadets had the opportunity to hear from the U.S. Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations, Jonathan Cohen, and to build relationships with the nation's future civilian leadership. This year marks the first time that the West Point MUN team has won first place at this conference, and places the team in a strong position for national rankings. Full story.

Cadets Run Annual Tunnel to Towers 5K Commemorating 9/11

  Annual Tunnel to Towers 5K

On Sept. 30, members of the Corps of Cadets, USMA staff and faculty, and candidates from the U.S. Military Academy prep school volunteered in the annual Tunnel to Towers 5K, a race that commemorates New York firefighter Stephen Siller's heroic run from Brooklyn to the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11, 2001. That morning, Siller had just finished his shift with Brooklyn’s Squad 1 when he got word over his scanner of a plane hitting the North Tower of the World Trade Center. He returned to Squad 1 to get his gear, and drove his truck to the entrance of the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, but found it had already been closed for security purposes. Determined to carry out his duty, he strapped 60 lbs. of gear to his back, and raced on foot through the tunnel to the Twin Towers, where he gave his life saving others. "While we have time, let us do good" were words that Siller lived by. Full story.
