Message from the Superintendent

  West Point Superintendent LTG Caslen

It was great to see so many of you last month at our annual Family Weekend. I hope you enjoyed getting a glimpse into cadet life and spending some time with your sons and daughters. I also appreciate the feedback many of you provided about the weekend’s activities and we will be looking at ways to improve for next year. With about a month to go before the end of the semester, your cadets continue to work hard and will accomplish a lot of great things. Some of November’s highlights include our sweep over Air Force in several athletic competitions, including football and hockey; our annual Student Conference on U.S. Affairs, which brings together cadets and student delegates from several colleges and universities with notable policy experts to discuss current issues; and this week’s Branch Night, as our Firsties received their branch assignment. There’s always a lot of excitement as they learn in which branch they will serve after graduation, and it’s great to see them now walking around the installation, proudly wearing their new branch insignia on their uniforms. As always, thank you for entrusting your sons and daughters to us. On behalf of the staff, faculty and the entire West Point community, I wish you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Branch Night for USMA 2018

West Point Branch Night cls 2018

Congratulations to the members of USMA 2018 on receiving their branch assignments on November 15. Branch Night is the culmination of the Department of Military Instruction’s Branch Education and Mentorship Program (E&M). For the last 41 months, since they entered West Point as plebes, the members of the Class of 2018 have been learning about the duties and equipment associated with each of the Army’s 17 branches. West Point graduates from the 50-year Affiliation Class of 1968 were on hand to present the cadets with their “first brass” branch insignia pins. Full Story. View Photos.

WPAOG Celebrates New Frederic V. Malek West Point Visitors Center

West Point Frederic V. Malek Visitor Center

On October 27, WPAOG hosted the official ribbon cutting for a new visitors center to serve the Academy and its visitors, named for lead donor Frederic V. Malek ’59. In addition, a significant portion of the funding came from class reunion gifts from Classes of 1972, 1973, 1974, 1978, 1984, 1988, 1990 and 2004. The project also received major commitments from the estate of Margaret A. Zipp, in memory of her husband LTC(R) Charles W. Zipp ’53, and The Boeing Company. The public opening is expected in December 2017. When opened, the new 31,000-square-foot Malek West Point Visitors Center will welcome more than 1 million visitors from around the world, sharing the West Point story in a compelling way and inspiring future generations of cadets and leaders.
