CDT Kate Sanborn ’20 Crushes First Marathon

CDT Kate Sanborn ’20 completed her first-ever marathon last November and qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials—a long-range goal she thought would take more time to realize. Along with qualifying for the trials, Sanborn's time also earned her a spot in the Army’s World Class Athlete Program upon graduation from West Point. The program will enable her to serve in the Army, while also training and competing as a professional athlete representing the United States. Full story. U.S. Army photo.

CDT William Merrill ’19 Visits South Pole

CDT William Merrill ’19 Visits South Pole

Stepping off the plane decked in a heavy parka, wool lined boots and litany of other cold weather gear, USMA CDT William Merrill ’19 entered one of the most inhospitable places on the planet. Through an internship program offered by the National Science Foundation, Merrill and two other service academy students spent Christmas break in Antarctica at McMurdo Station. They were on the continent from December 16-30 learning about the science being conducted as well as the operational logistics it takes to run multiple bases in an area not designed to support human life.
