USMA 2019 Celebrates 500th Night

USMA 2019 had its 500th Night Weekend Banquet January 13, celebrating 500 nights until graduation from West Point. As is usual in military formal events, the banquet began with several toasts: to the President of the United States, to the U.S. Army, to the U.S. Military Academy, to their guests, and to the Class of 2019 by Class President Tony Smith, and one silent toast to fallen comrades where all eyes turn to a small table with an empty chair and a place setting. Alex Gorsky ’82, Chairman and CEO of Johnson & Johnson, was the guest speaker. Full story.

Army-Navy Baseball Heading to Fenway Park

Army West Point Baseball and Navy, in conjunction with the Boston Red Sox, announced today that the teams' third meeting of the season will now be played at Fenway Park on April 20 at 6pm. Ticket proceeds from the matchup will be donated to charity. Proceeds from the Army-Navy game will benefit the Home Base Program, a partnership between Massachusetts General Hospital and the Red Sox Foundation that helps veterans suffering from PTSD and other "invisible wounds of war." Plebe-Parent Breakfast and Open House March 9

Save the date: Plebe-Parent Weekend is March 8-11! This is a great opportunity to experience West Point with your cadet. The weekend will include tours, presentations, a parade, a banquet in the cadet mess and more. On Friday, March 9 from 7-11:00am cadet families are invited to Herbert Hall Alumni Center for the annual Plebe-Parent Breakfast and Open House! Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and the opportunity to talk with WPAOG leadership and staff, and learn about the many ways WPAOG enhances your cadet’s experience today and long after graduation. West Point Showcases New USMA Visitors Center

The Winter 2018 issue of West Point magazine offers a first look at the spectacular new Malek West Point Visitors Center. The exhibits inside the 31,000-square-foot, fully donor-funded Center tell the inspiring history of West Point and its graduates, and provide an interactive experience of Cadet life. Your magazine should be arriving soon, but if you’d like a preview, you can view the digital edition, always available for reading on the go via your tablet or smartphone. All back issues are available in this format as well.

Parent participation increased to 42% in 2017, raising just shy of $1,000,000 for the West Point Parents Fund! On a day filled with ceremonial precision, Mark Esper ’86, PhD—a former paratrooper, infantry officer and combat veteran—became the 23rd Secretary of the Army. After a brief swearing-in ceremony at the Pentagon, senior military leaders, congressional officials and soldiers welcomed Esper into his new post with a formal arrival ceremony at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall in Arlington, VA. Read more.

Toth ’18 Accepts Invite to Reese's Senior Bowl

Army West Point offensive tackle Brett Toth has accepted an invitation to play in the Reese's Senior Bowl on January 27. Toth was one of eight new additions to the roster for the game, which is played in Mobile, AL and features some of the most talented seniors who just completed their final season of college football. The game is set for 1:30pm CT kickoff on the NFL Network. The Charleston, SC native is the first player from USMA to participate in the Senior Bowl in the 67-year history of the event. Full story.

Exciting Army Win in Armed Forces Bowl

  West Point Cadets celebrate Armed Forces Bowl win 2017
   

In what has become typical of Army West Point Football games, the Black Knights persevered in thrilling fashion to win the 2017 Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl, 42-35, over San Diego State December 23 in Fort Worth, TX. In a contest that featured four tie scores and four lead changes, a gutsy two-point conversion call by Army head coach Jeff Monken determined the outcome. Full story.

On December 22, 26 cadets became the newest members of the Long Gray Line after receiving their diplomas from BG Cindy Jebb '82, Dean of the Academic Board. Cadets also received 2LT bars engraved with “67-17” from members of their 50-year affiliation class, the Class of 1967. Representing the Class of 1967 were COL (R) Dave Blanchard, LTC (R) Bob Stromberg, and Mr. Bill Koch. Congratulations to our newest Old Grads! List of Graduates and photos.
