Happy Holidays from WPAOG!

Happy Holidays from WPAOG!

We extend our best wishes to everyone for a safe and happy holiday season and an excellent new year. Thank you to everyone for your continued support of West Point and the Long Gray Line! It is a pleasure and honor to serve you.

Message from the Superintendent

  LTG Darryl A. Williams '83

The Corps of Cadets is wrapping up a busy semester with term end exams and, of course, enjoying the “three-peat” win over Navy. Soon they will head home to enjoy a well-earned break and celebrate the holidays with family and friends. I’m sure you all are looking forward to spending time with your sons and daughters. Many of our competitive teams and clubs continue to demonstrate the tenacity and grit resident within the entire Corps of Cadets. One remaining highlight this fall is Army Football participation in the Armed Forces Bowl against the University of Houston on Saturday, December 22, at 2:30pm CST. If you are in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, I hope you’ll attend and cheer your Cadets on to another bowl victory! As we enter the holiday season, I would like to thank you for your continued support of West Point and the Corps. You can be very proud of these outstanding future leaders for our Army. They have accomplished so much this past semester and I know that trend will continue when classes resume in January. But for now, I hope you enjoy your time together over the winter break. Please continue to remember those who are deployed in harm’s way this holiday season, and keep them, and their families and loved ones, in your thoughts and prayers. On behalf of the West Point leadership team, Happy Holidays and we wish you a safe, prosperous and healthy New Year.

COL(R) Pat Reardon ’86 was born in 1963 in Vietnam as Nguyen Duc Do. His father, Huy Duc Nguyen, was a nurse in the South Vietnamese Army during the war who met an American civilian doctor, Dr. Pat Reardon, serving in Vietnam on a humanitarian mission. The two were such good friends that Dr. Reardon became young Nguyen Duc Do’s godfather. When the situation began to deteriorate in South Vietnam late in the war, Mr. Huy made plans to send Nugyen Duc Do and his sister to America to grow up with Dr. Reardon. Pat attended West Point with the Class of 1986, and one of his final assignments in the Army was as the Senior Defense Official in Hanoi. The stories of a family split apart by the Vietnam War, the compassion of an American Doctor, and the successful pursuit of the American Dream combine to show the human side of the Vietnam War.
