2022 Distinguished Graduate Awards

Six members of the Long Gray Line were recognized with a 2022 Distinguished Graduate Award (DGA) by the West Point Association of Graduates at its annual award ceremony during a cadet review on May 17, 2022: COL (R) Frederick C. Lough Jr. ’70, COL (R) Lee A. Van Arsdale ’74, GEN (R) John F. Campbell ’79, BG (R) Rebecca S. Halstead ’81, Alex Gorsky ’82, and LTG (R) Nadja Y. West ’82 (Read Bios Here). Since 1992, this annual award is bestowed upon those West Point Graduates whose character, distinguished service, and stature draw a wholesome comparison to the qualities West Point strives for in keeping with its motto “Duty, Honor, Country.” [PHOTOS ON FLICKR]

Earlier in the day, the DGA recipients—along with graduates from the reunion classes of 1945, 1946, 1952 and 1972—participated in the annual exercises by marching along diagonal walk on The Plain at West Point to the statue of Sylvanus Thayer, Class of 1808. The procession was led by COL (R) Peter T. Russell ’42, the oldest returning graduate, who, at 102 years old, placed a wreath at the Thayer statue’s base to honor “the father of the U.S. Military Academy” with First Captain Holland Pratt ’22.
