New Cadet Barracks Named for GEN Benjamin O. Davis Jr. ’36

 
   

West Point proudly announces that the newest cadet barracks, expected to be completed in 2016, will be named in honor of General Benjamin Oliver Davis Jr. ’36.  Davis was a pioneer of his time. Despite being “silenced” during his four years at West Point, he persevered to become the fourth African-American to graduate from West Point, graduating 35th in his class. In 1941, he was accepted as one of the first Tuskegee Airmen, earning aviation wings one year later. Read More

Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg Talks to Cadets about Inclusive Leadership and ‘Leaning In’

On March 4, Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg, author of Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead, addressed West Point cadets currently taking PL300 - Military Leadership.  She spoke about diversity, gender equality in the workplace and the importance of inclusive leadership. She was also able to meet with several “Lean In” circles at West Point, and learn more about USMA language (“cows”) and traditions (“Beat Navy!”, the “poop deck” at Cadet Mess) from her USMA-grad Facebook colleagues Denise Quigley ’09 and Andrew Kletzing ’03.  Read more

Army Hockey Alumni Score Big for Charity Benefiting Vets

 
   

Alumni hockey players from 20 different USMA classes from 1979 to 2010 joined together to face off against the NHL's Boston Bruins Alumni at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, MA. Sponsored by the West Point Society of New England, the charitable event raised more than $40,000 to benefit Fisher House Boston—a foundation which provides housing for military families while loved ones are being treated at local VA medical centers. Years of a Century Told – ‘Living History’ Panel to Feature Five West Point Superintendents

As part of the April "Board of Living Superintendents" featuring the current and former Superintendents of the Academy, there will be a panel discussion entitled "Years of a Century Told" in Eisenhower Hall. The panel will chronicle 100 years of living history, from the celebrated Class of 1915 to our soon-to-be-graduated Class of 2015, and will be moderated by Emmy-award-winning journalist Chris Wallace. Registration is now open for the West Point Diversity Leadership Conference, May 5-7. This conference is the first in a five-year series supporting USMA’s strategic plan, and is open to all alumni.  The theme is Today's USMA - Tomorrow's Leadership for a Diverse Army. This year, we will focus on Diversity and Inclusion Principles and Practices, Diversity Education, Developing Inclusive Leaders, Outreach, Recruiting, Advocacy, Alumni Support, and the Diversity & Inclusion Strategy Progress.
