Oldest Living Graduate Returns to West Point

Oldest Living Graduate LTG Ely '33

LTG(R) William J. Ely ’33, has the distinction of being the oldest graduate at 105 years old. He and other alumni returned to West Point for reunions and other events during Graduation Week, including a wreath laying ceremony at Thayer Statue. “I am honored to be here,” Ely said. “It is vastly different than when I was a cadet. I just wish we had better weather and I hate doing this in a wheel chair, but that’s the way it is.” Full Story. Watch LTG Ely’s video interview with West Point’s Center for Oral History.

All Academy Challenge Results

  All Academy Challenge

Thank you to the 4,463 alumni who made a gift during the All Academy Challenge! Though the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy had the highest percentage of alumni participation this year, 9.17% of the Long Gray Line made a gift to support West Point during the seven-day challenge, which is something to be proud of. Because of the tremendous support that West Point received from its graduates, $1,063,674 was raised for important Margin of Excellence programs at the Academy that benefit the entire Corps of Cadets! Thank you for participating in the fourth annual All Academy Challenge and for furthering the mission of West Point. GO ARMY!

USMA Wins 2016-2017 Boeing Tri-Service Academy Capstone Competition

  West Point Cadet Lloyd

USMA’s Team F.E.A.R. (Functional Engagement Area Reconnaissance) won the Boeing Service Academy Capstone Competition for academic year 2016-17. This is USMA’s first victory over the Naval Academy and the Air Force Academy in the eight years of the Boeing competition, and USMA had the smallest cadet team of all three academies. A multi-disciplinary capstone project in Systems Engineering and Civil and Mechanical Engineering, Team F.E.A.R.’s project—an autonomous system of drones and sensors to support small tactical units, particularly Special Forces ODAs—demonstrated several unique features, including a Battery Swap Station; Image Stitching to create 3D models of objective areas in near-real-time; and a Multi-Camera System for efficient 3D model data collection.
