R-Day 2018: The Journey Begins for USMA 2022

R-Day 2018 was a memorable day at West Point, as over 1200 new cadets from the Class of 2022 took their first steps toward becoming leaders of character. GEN Mark A. Milley, 39th Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, who was on post to preside over the Assumption of Command ceremony of 60th USMA Superintendent LTG Darryl Williams ’83, took time afterward to witness the transformative events of R-Day. But July 2 will perhaps be remembered by most for a scorching heatwave that settled over the Hudson Valley. Photos.

Grant, Class of 1843, to Join Fellow Presidents on The Plain

Grant, Class of 1843, to Join Fellow Presidents on The Plain

In 2017, the Committee on Armed Services, U.S. House of Representatives encouraged the Secretary of the Army to consider placing a statue of Ulysses S. Grant, Class of 1843, at West Point in time for the sesquicentennial of his inauguration as the 18th President of the United States. While USMA worked out a plan, WPAOG sought Margin of Excellence funding for the statue. Inspired by a personal admiration for Grant, Robert A. McDonald ’75, and his wife Diane, offered to fully fund the project. The statue will be in place by early 2019. Full story in West Point.
