Four USMA 2018 Cadets Named Stamps Scholars


Cadets Haley Duke, Shawna Moore, Remington Ponce-Pore, and Joy Schaeffer have been selected as Stamps Scholars by the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation. This prestigious scholarship recognizes academic merit, strong leadership potential, and exceptional character, supporting young people with promise and vision who are eager to make a contribution to the world. The Stamps Foundation award provides funding for cadets to pursue leadership projects to further their studies, and as part of a national network of fellow scholars and alumni, Stamps Scholars interact with their peers at conferences and other programs. West Point is among just 43 colleges designated as partner schools eligible for the program..

West Point Society of Eastern OK Goes Big with Army-Navy Spirit Billboard

It begins! The West Point Society of Eastern Oklahoma put up a large GO ARMY! billboard in downtown Tulsa for the month of November leading up to the Army-Navy game. The Society hopes to excite the Army-Navy rivalry in Oklahoma, generate local interest in the service academies and their unique mission to train young people to serve in our nation’s military, and attract any “straggler” West Point graduates in the area who are unaware of the 130+ member West Point Society in Eastern Oklahoma.

Army Cyber Institute Organizes Conference on Cyber Conflict


The Army Cyber Institute (ACI), with support from the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation and Ernst & Young, and in cooperation with the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defense Center of Excellence, organized the inaugural U.S. Conference on Cyber Conflict (CyCon U.S.), held in Washington DC October 21-23. With the theme “Protecting the Future,” CyCon brought together nearly 400 experts from industry, academia, and government. Cadets who participated had the opportunity to meet influential decision-makers and deepen their understanding of cyber conflict. The ACI is a Superintendent’s priority Margin of Excellence program for the Academy, and events such these are critical to its mission to develop cyber-savvy leaders.

West Point Band to March in Macy’s 90th Thanksgiving Day Parade

On Thanksgiving Day, the West Point Band will join the 90th anniversary celebration of the parade. This is the band’s second appearance in the event. Each year the Macy's Parade Band Committee looks for bands that have the stage presence, musical and marching abilities to captivate more than 3.5 million live spectators and more than 50 million viewers. The parade will air at 9am Eastern Time on NBC-TV. Full Story.

Draper Special Collections Dedicated at West Point Library

  Draper Special Collections

The USMA Library dedicated two new special collections on Oct. 28: The Stephen E. Draper Collection on Water Scarcity and National Security and The Lucy H. Draper Collections on Women at West Point and “Women Warriors.” The collections are a gift from Dr. Stephen E. Draper ’64 and his wife Lucy Hargrett Draper. In addition, the Drapers have established The Stephen E. Draper Library Endowment for Historical Research to provide materials emphasizing the lessons of history and their importance to future response to national security challenges.

Class of ’68 Honors Their Fallen Brothers

On Oct. 20, more than 160 classmates and family members joined together in Columbus, GA to honor 20 classmates from the West Point Class of 1968 who were killed in Vietnam. The culminating event was the solemn dedication of 20 pavers at the base of an educational replica of the Vietnam Wall located at the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center.

SCUSA 68 “Democracy and Democratization: Challenges and Opportunities”


Student delegates from 130 colleges and universities nationwide, and from 25 foreign countries, descended upon West Point from November 9 to November 12 for the 68th annual Student Conference on U.S. Affairs (SCUSA). Started in 1948 to discuss how to rebuild Europe in the wake of World War II, SCUSA attracts outstanding scholars and practitioners each year to guide student discussions on important foreign policy problems facing the United States. Endowed by the West Point Class of 1971 and the Olmsted Foundation, this year’s SCUSA featured a keynote address by Dr. Richard N. Haass, President of the Council on Foreign Relations.
