USMA Superintendent Issues Update on West Point Cemetery Policy

On Feb. 22, LTG Robert L. Caslen Jr. '75 issued a letter to the Long Gray Line outlining important updates to the West Point Cemetery burial policy. The letter states that on or about July 1, USMA anticipates lifting the temporary interment criteria imposed in December 2014. The return to the original criteria should create availability through 2024.


LTG H.R. McMaster ’84 Appointed 26th National Security Advisor

President Trump appointed Lt. Gen. Herbert R. “H. R.” McMaster ’84 as his new National Security Advisor on Feb. 20. McMaster holds a Ph.D. from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and taught Military History at West Point. In a 2012 interview with the West Point Center for Oral History, McMaster talks about writing his 1997 book on the Vietnam War, "Dereliction of Duty: Lyndon Johnson, Robert McNamara, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Lies that led to Vietnam."  His immediate past military assignment was as Director of the Army Capabilities Integration Center, an internal think tank that looks at future threats and how to deal with them, and Deputy Commanding General, Futures of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command.

Class of 2018 Ring Melt: The Legacy Continues

Now in its 17th year, the WPAOG Class Ring Memorial “Melt” has incorporated a total of 451 rings, with 41 donated this year for the rings for the Class of 2018. “I think the Ring Melt Program is a wonderful idea and one of the more meaningful traditions West Point has, because it provides both a physical and symbolic link between the members of the Long Gray Line,” said BG Diana Holland ’90, Commandant. Corrigan Earns Athletics Director of the Year

Army West Point Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan has been selected as a 2016-17 Football Bowl Subdivision Under Armour Athletics Director of the Year recipient. In support of building a winning culture at West Point, Corrigan has presided over one of the most successful eras in Army West Point’s recent history, with the Black Knights achieving milestones and setting records on the “fields of friendly strife.” Corrigan has overseen a program that owns 23 league regular season or tournament championships and sent 11 teams to the NCAA postseason. Model UN Invitational Joins Cadets, Civilian Students

On Feb. 23, the West Point Model UN club hosted the sixth annual West Point Model United Nations Invitational (WPMUNI). More than 100 student delegates from 14 colleges and universities participated in the three-day conference. WPMUNI strives to create the most realistic and fast-paced simulation of the U.S. Government’s national security apparatus for its delegates. Chief of Staff for WPMUNI, Cadet Brittany Scofield ’18, says the most important thing to stress for model UN is “that it creates a relationship with us and the civilian sector and civilian colleges.” Full Story.

2017 Service Academies Global Summit

Registration is now open for SAGS 2017, which will be held in Washington, DC Jun. 14-16 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center.  The Summit’s theme for 2017 is “Addressing Today’s Challenges and Creating Opportunities Together.”  The purpose of the Service Academies Global Summit (SAGS) is to develop, inspire and promote Fellowship, Leadership/Professional Development and Service for the “super-community” of graduates worldwide from the five U.S. Service Academies. WPAOG will be hosting an exclusive alumni reception on Thursday, June 15 from 5:30-7:30pm.

America's Game is set for Dec. 9 in Philadelphia at 3pm and will be televised live on CBS. BEAT NAVY!

The Robb E. and Lydia A. Turner “Soldier to Citizen” Fellowship Fund

The Robb E. (MBA 1990) and Lydia A. Turner “Soldier to Citizen” Fellowship Fund was endowed in 2015 through the generosity of Robb Turner ’84 and his wife Lydia to make the transforming educational experience of Harvard Business School accessible to exceptionally qualified students who have faithfully served their country as officers in the U.S. Army. First preference will be given to officers who are graduates of West Point, and then to current or former military officers more broadly. The fellowship maybe used in the MBA program and/or any online educational programs such as HBX CORe. To take advantage of fellowship funds with CORe, please indicate your interest in institutional need-based scholarships and note your military affiliation when completing your online application.
