Running Technique Study to Improve Readiness

Running Technique Study to Improve Readiness

A six-week study called START: Simple Technology Assessing Running Technique has studied new cadets at USMA since July 5. Cadets in the Class of 2022 are wearing information-recording pods for six weeks during summer training to detect steps per minute, step length, distance run, foot strike pattern and rate of impact loading. The study aims to identify traits in Soldiers’ gait that may be indicative of future lower extremity injuries. The intent of the study is to improve readiness by identifying parameters which promote healthy running and reduce injury, contributing to a reduction in the number of running-related injuries in cadets and Soldiers. They spent three days partnering with faculty at AIMS to promote STEM education, facilitating practical modules and fostering further confidence in learning for the African students.
