WPAOG is pleased to announce that CPT Lindsay Gordon Heisler ’12, has been selected to receive the 2019 Alexander R. Nininger Award for Valor at Arms. The award ceremony will be on October 24 at West Point. Heisler is soon to take her second company command, of Delta Company, 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, “Wolfpack,” 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Read more.

On August 23, during a ceremony at Trophy Point, cadets from the Class of 2020 received their West Point class rings. Members of the 50-year Affiliation Class of 1970 gripped hands with cadets, and family and friends greeted their firsties to celebrate their new “crass mass of brass and glass.” At the Ring Melt earlier this year, donated West Point class rings were melted into a single gold bar that was used to make the rings, ensuring that the Long Gray Line remains physically and symbolically connected with the Class of 2020 as they wear their class rings. WPAOG welcomed more than 300 Class, Society and Parents Club Leaders, as well as USMA Admissions Regional Officers August 14-16 for the annual Leaders Conference, sponsored by the Class of 1967. This year's conference included training sessions facilitated by WPAOG staff members and individual workshops with targeted content for group leaders. Members from USMA’s leader team spoke throughout the conference, as well as selected USMA staff & faculty members. The three-day conference culminated with a Dinner Cruise on the Hudson River in celebration of WPAOG's 150th Anniversary. Photos. Video.

The Army Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2019 features former head wrestling coach Lloyd Appleton, cross country and track and field standout Mike Bernstein ’95, gymnastics star Carl Brunson ’50, track and field great Dennis Trujillo ’76 and two-sport standout Mortimore (Bud) Sprague ’29. Honorees will be officially inducted into the Army Sports Hall of Fame on Friday, September 20. The group will also be recognized during the football game against Morgan State the next day at Michie Stadium. Read more.

On August 18, the Class of 2021 affirmed their commitment to service in the U.S. Army during a ceremony at West Point. Cadets took the Oath of Affirmation, binding them to complete their next two years of study and a minimum of five years of active-duty military service thereafter. LTG(R) Franklin L. "Buster" Hagenbeck '71, 57th USMA Superintendent, was the guest speaker for the evening. Also present at the Affirmation ceremony were more than 40 members of the Class of 1971, the 50-Year Affiliation class for the Class of 2021. Read more and see photos.

The Class of 2023 was officially accepted into the U.S. Corps of Cadets at Acceptance Day on August 17. Read more about the class and their newly unveiled motto “Freedom is Not Free.” The carrying of the motto is not a one-time event that is then cast aside. On August 21, West Point graduate, physician and NASA astronaut COL Andrew Morgan ‘98 and Expedition 60 crewmate Nick Hague (USAFA ’98) successfully completed a six-hour and 32-minute spacewalk outside the International Space Station. The team installed the orbiting lab’s second commercial crew vehicle docking port, the International Docking Adapter-3 (IDA-3), where future spacecraft will dock when bringing astronauts to the station as part of NASA's Commercial Crew Program. Through September 30, three display cases on the second floor of Jefferson Hall contain an exhibit on the history of WPAOG. The exhibit includes the original AOG Constitution and By-Laws from 1869, Travel Visa and Passport of George Cullum (1833), a Letter from Sylvanus Thayer (1808) to Cullum acknowledging Cullum’s work on the Register of Graduates, an AOG membership form of Eisenhower (1915), and photographs of Eisenhower and Omar Bradley during Class of 1915 reunions. Library staff also created a book display which will include a “find Flat Cullum” activity for cadets.

After the A Day Parade on August 17, the Diversity and Inclusion Office hosted a Luncheon at Riverside Café to welcome the families and plebes in the USMA Class of 2023 and to highlight diversity and inclusion as an institutional priority. Mr. Terry Allbritton, USMA’s Chief Diversity Officer, the First Captain, and members of the USMA Leader Team (the Superintendent, the Dean, the Commandant, and the Director of Admissions) congratulated the Class of 2023 and addressed the importance of fostering inclusiveness throughout the Academy as well as the importance of having a diverse Corps. After the comments, all attendees enjoyed a hearty lunch and music while the Leader Team and members of the Admissions Team mingled with the happy families. Photos.

The Superintendent’s Circle recognizes all donors who made annual gifts of $1,000 or more to the Superintendent’s Annual Fund or the West Point Parents Fund in the previous calendar year (January 1 – December 31).
