WPSs Supporting Service Academy Career Conferences

Every time the Service Academy Career Conference (SACC) has come to Military City USA (aka San Antonio, TX), the West Point Society of South Texas has been there. “In the past we’ve had members who reviewed resumes or helped coach those in transition from military to civilian life,” says Dan Clark '91, a representative from that WPS. This year the society had representatives available during the conference to discuss the networking benefits of local WPSs and hosted a post-informational-session “Benny Havens” social event at The Bier Garten that was attended by approximately 15 conference participants. Members of the WPS-Savannah have also opened their homes for those attending the SACC in their backyard.

Athena’s Arena: Save the Date

All graduates are invited to participate in Athena's Arena, a conference commemorating 40 years of women at the United States Military Academy. Join us April 28-30, 2016 at West Point for thought-provoking programming and keynote speakers GEN (R) Ann Dunwoody and author Gayle Tzemach Lemmon, as we explore current women's topics at West Point, in the Army, and across the nation. More details.

Army Beats Navy!

Army West Point might have lost to Navy in the big football game (although the team was winning at half-time), but last month Army fans (177) beat Navy fans (157) for the first time in five years at the 7th annual Army vs. Navy Blood Drive Challenge, co-hosted by WPS-Central Ohio and the Central Chapter of the USNA Alumni Association. “This event is a great way for our Society to make a contribution to our community,” says Don Kopinski ’79, President of the WPS-Central Ohio. According to Kim Howard, (Kopinski’s spouse, who he says, “...devised the idea for the event and took the lead on coordinating everything”), the Army-Navy Blood Drive generated approximately 300 pints of blood for the American Red Cross.

Looking Forward to Founders Day Celebrations

Founders Day is just around the corner!  WPSs all over the world are planning events to celebrate the March 16, 1802 establishment of the Corps of Engineers at West Point that would “constitute a military academy.” These events range from clambakes and picnics to galas and black-tie award ceremonies. Spanning the globe from Singapore to New York, the festivities start in February and last until April. Check out WPAOG’s online calendar for a list of events in your area and come out to celebrate the Academy’s birthday!

WPSs Host Popular Away-Game Tailgates

Kudos to the following WPSs for hosting away-game tailgates and generating spirit among Army West Point Football fans: Connecticut, Michigan, Central Pennsylvania, Greater Houston, and the Pikes Peak Region. For example, on a crisp Rocky Mountain autumn day, under clear blue skies, WPS-PPR hosted its biennial “GO ARMY” tailgate prior to the Army-Air Force Football game. “It’s always festive, highly popular, and well attended,” says COL (R) James Stover ’76, WPS-PPR President.
