2022 Warfighter Innovation in Science & Engineering Challenge

Congratulations to the three cadet teams selected for the West Point semifinals of the DEVCOM WISE Competition. The Warfighter Innovation in Science & Engineering (WISE) Challenge is a Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) competition sponsored by the Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Soldier Center and approved by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Research & Technology. A summary of the teams is as follows:

Team Mixology is designing a state-of-the-art mixing mechanism to create ceramic military-grade materials for on-demand extrusion in deployed environments. The team includes Cadets Seth Addeo, Steven Andreen, Josh Omolade, Sara Sheward, Owen States, and Lane Zuchowski. The team is advised by COL Margaret Nowicki and Dr. Jennifer Bennett in the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering.

Team Neuroprotectors is studying the application of neurodegeneration research to potential biological and chemical threat agents on the battlefield and promising molecular countermeasures. The team includes Cadets Tristan McKenzie, Ryan Kreiser, Aidan Wright, Liam Sasser, Jorge Hurtado, Justus Gabriel, Thomas Tan, Amrita Kaur, Claire Hsu, and Marshall Gilmer. The team is advised by Dr. Ryan Limbocker and MAJ Lam Nguyen in the Department of Chemistry and Life Science.

Team Power Patch is designing innovative metal gels comprised of nanowire arrays to address long range precision fires and lightweight soldier power and energy requirements. The team includes Cadets Felita Zhang, Alexa Zammit, Andre Pincot, Malina Hatton, Edward Tang, Paul Trackey, and Zachary Bone. The team is advised by COL John Burpo in the Department of Chemistry and Life Sciences.
