James A. Baker, III
James A. Baker III, a native Texan and long-time resident of Houston, is the recipient of West Point’s 2010 Thayer Award. Secretary Baker served in senior government positions under three Presidents of the United States (Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, and George H.W. Bush). He was our nation’s 67th Secretary of the Treasury and 61st Secretary of State. Since leaving national public service, Secretary Baker has repeatedly answered the call to serve on task forces and commissions seeking solutions to national and world issues. In 1991, Secretary Baker received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Currently, he is a senior partner in the Texas-based law firm of Baker Botts, and he continues his service in the private sector as Honorary Chairman of the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy at Rice University.
